Friends of Dorothy believes every human has the right to live with dignity, regardless of sexual orientation. The organization seeks to provide a safe place for LGBTQ+ seniors to live their golden years with dignity and security to live their most authentic selves.
The primary function will be building and operating an assisted living and senior care facility to help LGBTQ+ seniors with daily life, medication routine, self-maintenance when needed, and added healthcare support. Each resident will have a shared or private room and shared spaces for dining, recreation, and social gatherings. Medication management and housekeeping will also be included. Bathing and bathroom support will be offered when needed. Social and leisure activities, along with emergency care, will be provided as well.
In addition, Friends of Dorothy will provide the following:
- Custodial Care (bathing, eating, dressing, and bathroom help)
- Medication Management
- General Mobility (sitting, standing, and getting in & out of bed)
- Transportation throughout the residence and to appointments away from the facility.
- Skilled Nursing Care (physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy)
- Mental Health Counselors
- 24-hr Supervision and Emergency Care
- Social and Recreational Activities
- Legal Support
- End-of-Life Planning
The Board of Directors will routinely evaluate programming by defining clear and measurable goals to ensure mission fulfillment.
